Montreal Asexual Meetup Group

Montreal area asexuals and allies will be meeting at 17:30 (5:30 pm) on Saturday, September 13th at Bardeco restaurant located at 1676 Lincoln (corner St-Mathieu). The closest metro station is Guy-Concordia.

What to expect at the meeting?
* Introductions
* Discussion of what we hope to get out of this meeting
* Thoughts on possible outreach to Montreal's asexual community. Should we try organizing future meetings/events? How would we publicize such meetings? What do we want to accomplish: increase awareness of asexuality? Facilitate social networking between asexuals? Other goals?

Is it possible to find out more information about this group, maybe contact info for the organizers so that people can find out if this group is right for them, or what to expect in terms of numbers of people attending, confidentiality, etc.

Thanks for consistently raising attention to minorities within a minority group (i.e. asexuals, transsexuals, etc.).

Hi Calvin,

All I can tell you as of now is they expect between 4-5 people in attendance.

I sent a message to the person asking for an email or contact number for you. I saw this posting on Asexuality.org forums. Hope to have more info for you shortly.

Just a reminder that the Montreal Asexuality Meetup is taking place this Saturday Sept 13th. Details are as follow:

OK, after a period of inactivity it looks like things are moving in Montreal. I have been in touch with a number of people in the Montreal area and we will be meeting at 17:30 (5:30 pm) on Saturday, September 13th at Bardeco restaurant located at 1676 Lincoln (corner St-Mathieu). The closest metro station is Guy-Concordia. The tel # of the restaurant is 514.937-1001. Bardeco is usually quiet and it should be possible for us to talk easily. Here's the web-site with the menu: http://www.bardeco.com/. Pizza's on me smile.gif

If we decide we need more privacy I will also reserve a seminar room at Concordia university which is 5 mins away. I am expecting about 4-5 people to attend at this point although all are welcome.

Since this is a first meeting I think it should be as informal as possible. People can talk as much or as little as they like, but I'd like to suggest we try to cover the following:

* Introductions

Some initial thoughts of my own:

* Schools (universities and cégeps) might be a good base to reach out to other asexuals.
* The Gay/Lesbian/Transexual community might be possible allies since they likely understand what it is like to live with an "alternative" sexuality and have a lot of experience organizing their community
* Given how small the community is I think we decide to do additional outreach activities they should be bilingual in order to reach the greatest number of people.
* I have some experience doing media relations and could help out with press releases, backgrounders, etc. if we decide that would be a good idea.

Cheers,
